Science tells us that we only use about 10% of our brain. Our traditions tell us that there are three main parts of our mind. Often these are referred to as the Conscious, the Subconscious and the Superconscious. Simply put, meditation gives us conscious access to the Subconscious and the Superconscious, so it gives us a way to use more of our mind.

Some of the benefits of meditation are listed on the page describing the Teachings of Dr. June d'Estelle. Many of the benefits are practical ways to help us in the physical world, such as improving our health, memory, and learning. One of the first ways that Gale successfully used meditation was to reduce headaches.

One benefit of meditation is that it is a powerful way to reach our intuition. Alpha helps us get in touch with our inner senses and other dimensions. Theta is a way of reaching our inner source, which includes our Soul Essence. Delta and Gamma are even deeper levels, which we are now just starting to access consciously. These deeper levels of consciousness have been demonstrated by Yogi's who achieve "suspended animation" (where western medical doctors can perceive no heart beat, respiration or pulse). These states of consciousness are also associated with the ability of certain Tibetan monks who can mediate in the Himalayan Mountains in sub-zero temperatures with scanty clothing and melt the snow all around them.

Meditation has long been associated with accessing the Spiritual dimension and is therefore a part of many spiritual traditions. For some reason, in recent times it was not associated with the Christian tradition , although it may have been called contemplation or prayer. Certainly there is a long Christian tradition of Visions or Prophesy, which can come through meditation. It is worth mentioning that organized religion (that created by humans) has a tendency to discourage independent connection to the Divine for several reasons. One reason is that it dilutes the power of religion and religious leaders. This can also be true of other human organizations and those in positions of power. In this regard, it is important to keep things in perspective (see Maintaining Perspective), as we are both human and divine.

Meditation is the basic method that the authors have used to find their spiritual paths on their spiritual journeys. They continue to find new benefits of meditation and the information that comes through meditation.
