Prayer and meditation are traditional ways to deal with difficult times. Prayer is more common in the Christian tradition where it has often been seen as seeking God's help. Another way of seeing prayer is that God's Love and Help are always here and prayer is a way of opening up to that Love and Help. For those who need to talk about something to really recognize it, prayer can help to do this. Prayer is different for each of us and it is good to find what works. We have not included very much about prayer in this workshop, because there are many sources of information, practices, and opportunities for prayer in traditional religious practice. These can be very valuable and all that some people need. There are also many sources, practices and opportunities for meditation; we have included a lot about meditation in this workshop for two main reasons. One is that most of these sources are outside of the Christian tradition and the other is that meditation has been extremely valuable for the two authors of this workshop. So valuable, that it has become a part of our daily practice. We have found some guided meditations to be particularly valuable during times of trouble.
