In Western meditation, the object is to give the mind something to do. This creates a framework for the truth to shine through. This may also be called guided meditation. The guiding can come from one’s own conscious mind or from an external source such as another person or a recording. However, the person experiencing the meditation is always in charge. If the guided meditation doesn’t fit, we are free to do what we want to in mediation. The meditation method that has worked the best for the authors of this workshop for over 30 years is western meditation. This does not mean that we use it exclusively, or that it is the best for everyone. However it has changed our lives far beyond what we expected and we want to share what has worked for us. Here are some of the meditations and information that we have found to be valuable for Alpha (the first meditation level):
