Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy Our Original Home (?) www.viewzone.com/milkyway.html Scientists announced that the Sun, the Moon, our planet and its siblings, were not born into the familiar band of stars known as the Milky Way galaxy, but we actually belong to a strange formation with the unfamiliar name of the Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy. For years astronomers have been puzzled by the fact that the Milky Way is seen perpendicular to the earth. If our solar system began in that galaxy, our path around the sun ought to be aligned with the sun’s path around the Milky Way. Instead, our path is at right angles to that of the Milky Way. This theory came to light when the University of Massachusetts astronomers used volumes of data from the Two-Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS). This project surveyed the infrared light of the sky. It showed that the Milky Way, which is 10,000 times larger, is consuming one of its neighbors in a dramatic display of ongoing galactic cannibalism. This fact leads scientists to believe that our solar system is/was part of a galaxy known as Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy, whose path is at right angles to that of the Milky Way. We are now at the crossroads where the two galaxies are actually coming together. Even the existence of Sagittarius was unknown until this nearest satellite galaxy was discovered by a team of British astronomers in 1994. Stars and clusters have been stolen from Sagittarius by the gravitational pull of the Milky Way. Perhaps our own solar system was originally a part of the Sagittarius Galaxy. Possibly the strength of the Milky Way will affect Earth’s path around the sun so that it will be more in keeping with that of the rest of the Milky Way. As a result, there might even be a changing of the earth’s axis. This may be why global warming has been observed recently. The higher energy levels of the Milky Way are thought to cause our sun to burn hotter and to emit higher energies. In our solar system, almost all of the planets now have higher temperatures. As our knowledge of the universe grows, we cannot but understand how much we do not understand. Such is life.
